Clinical Trials
Advancing knowledge through clinical trials
Clinical trials involve the investigation of a drug, device, or procedure on a specific population to evaluate the effects on health outcomes. SIR Foundation supports a variety of studies to advance the specialty of IR.
C-TRACT
Chronic Venous Thrombosis: Relief with Adjunctive Catheter-Directed Therapy (C-TRACT) is a multicenter, randomized trial led by Suresh Vedantham, MD, FSIR, of the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University in St. Louis. It is funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The study goal is to determine if the use of image-guided endovascular therapy (EVT) is an effective strategy to reduce the severity of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) and improve quality of life (QOL) in patients with established disabling iliac-obstructive post-thrombotic syndrome (DIO-PTS).
EMBOLIZE
The EMBOLIZE trial is a first-of-its-kind prospective, randomized controlled trial studying the effects of ovarian vein embolization (OVE) in reducing pain in women experiencing chronic pain due to pelvic venous disease (PeVD).
This trial is an investigator-initiated clinical trial sponsored by SIR Foundation and The VIVA Foundation, with support from Penumbra, Inc.
This trial is the first time SIR Foundation is leading a multi-organization collaboration to generate the data necessary to impact and improve patient care.

PRESERVE
Predicting the Safety and Effectiveness of Inferior Vena Cava Filters Trial (PRESERVE) is the first large-scale, multispecialty prospective clinical research trial to evaluate the use of inferior vena cava (IVC) filters and related follow-up treatment in the United States.

ATTRACT
Acute Venous Thrombosis: Thrombus Removal with Adjunctive Catheter-directed Thrombolysis (ATTRACT) was the first national multicenter, randomized trial to compare the ability of two treatment strategies, standard treatment (consisting of anticoagulants and the use of elastic compression stockings), and pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PCDT) in addition to the standard treatment.
